Tuesday, Aikman asked if we could have PJ day. Of course, I said that Wednesday could be his PJ day.

So, I was wondering… how many people insist on having their kids fully dressed each day, before school begins? That’s what we typically do…. eat breakfast, get dressed, make bed, brush teeth… and then school starts by 9am.
I’ve always been a follower of the “Fly Lady” mentality that you get ready each morning, all the way down to having your shoes on. Okay, okay… well, everything BUT the shoes! (I’m a Southern girl, and I only wear shoes when I leave the house to go some where. Now, now… I don’t want to be hearing any “barefoot” Southerner jokes in the comments!) This “get ready for the day” mentality has filtered down to us homeschooling, and it kind of keeps us on rhythm (and makes me feel better during the day to know that the beds are made and everything is ready IF we do need to rush out of the house to go somewhere).
So, what do you do? Do you insist on getting your kiddos out of bed and ready for the day before school starts? Or are you relaxed and let them have PJ days often?
Looking forward to hearing what you do!

Gerrick goes through about 3 or 4 costume changes a day. :) Until recently I didn't make him get dressed any specific way in the mornings. Recently we've been trying a new schedule that involves walking around the neighborhood and going to the playground after morning independent work and before shared lessons. To do this, he needs to be dressed in weather-appropriate clothes. He really likes doing this, so he has no problem getting dressed in the mornings now. But as soon as we are back home he's likely to strip down and put on lounge pants--or a ninja costume. I'm okay with that. :)
I quit flylady b/c of her stance on wearing shoes.....which I know defeats the purpose (we aren't supposed to try to be perfect : ) ). I do have my kids get dressed before school. We as home schoolers have a laid-back schedule so I feel we should at least be dressed. It's kind-of like how I wouldn't let them come to dinner undressed; I think it just shows a basic respect for the process. Plus, if you suddenly had a PJ Day, it would make it that much more special!
my 3 and 6 year old brush their teeth and make their beds before they can have breakfast... i am pretty flexible when it comes to getting dressed... mostly because i know how much i love to stay in my cozy jammies until i feel like getting dressed. :) they are usually changing into dress up costumes before there clothes anyway.. :) we are still trying to figure out the blend between a healthy dose of unschooling and montessori... i love how they 'start school' the minute they get curious about something.. and school doesn't start or stop based on if you have shoes on-- school is when your mind is engaged with your heart and your learning or practicing or digging deeper. it won't always be like this i'm sure.. but with a 6, 3, and 18 month old it is working well now. :)
Mine is 13 years old. He usually does an hour or two of schoolwork in his PJ's(sweats) then takes a shower and gets dressed mid-morning.

WE get dressed at snack time, unless we have a morning out, like gymnastics, or Classical Conversations. If I try to get them upstairs to dress after breakfast, I lose them to pretend play. From breakfast and Bible, we go brush our teeth and then go into the schoolroom which is next to the kitchen and then I work with J-jo while Bear does sensorial or practical life things or reads. Then we break for snack (at around 9 or ten depending when we started our day) and go get dressed and we make our beds. Then we gather again, but this time I teach Bear and J-jo gets to play or do practical life or sensorial.
We get ready (what for me includes getting dressed) before breakfast - completely, except the shoes :) Exceptionally, on weekends, I let her stay in PJ some time, usually on Sunday, when we tend to have an easy, lazy day...but I do not feel comfortable staying in my PJ at all, so I get dressed as usual.
Our life is such that we have to be up and at em' early...so typically I let the kiddos (and mommy) have jammie day everyday. The rules are: they must get dressed to play outside and before we run errands. We're all dressed at some point during the day...just maybe not during school.
